As Tom Cruise began his epic journey in the 1992 film Far and Away, he looked back from the top of the mountain ridge at the Ireland he would leave behind. A land of green running down to the rocky shore, a rugged coastline with views to lonely islands in the distance.

The Conor Pass is one of the highest mountain passes in Ireland with an asphalt surface. I have visited here on many occasions with my camera but on this occasion (spring 2016) all the elements were in place for a breath taking image. The rain storms coming in from the sea, the sunlight coming through the sheets of rain on the left to form a rainbow, the light and shadows falling on the brown and green mountain sides, all combine to reward. Also available as an amazing panorama.
